I have always had big goals and ideas, but I have long struggled with procrastination and focus issues. For over thirty years, I have been studying and learning all I can to achieve more and overcome these issues. Over that time I have started a number of businesses and for the past 20+ years I have worked as a speaker, trainer, and consultant where I not only use a number of the ideas and techniques I read and learn about, but I also synthesize the ideas and use them in my speaking, training, and writing.
I love this book because it is ridiculously simple but also ridiculously powerful. This short book can be read in one sitting, and it has a simple message about pushing through when times get tough. Seth Godin is one of my favorite writers, and this book exemplifies why. It is mostly motivational but with enough techniques to be actionable.
I find myself re-reading this book periodically, especially when business or life gets frustrating.
This iconic bestseller from the bestselling author of All Marketers Are Liars proves that winners are just the best quitters and 'should be on every entrepreneur's book list' (Entrepreneur.com)
Every new project (or career or relationship) starts out exciting and fun. Then it gets harder and less fun, until it hits a low point - really hard, really not fun. At this point you might be in a Dip, which will get better if you keep pushing, or a Cul-de-Sac, which will never get better no matter how hard you try. The hard part is knowing the difference and acting…
I found the basic premise of this book to be amazingly simple and equally amazingly mind-blowing. I had known about prioritization for a long time, but the idea of distilling things down to just one thing—the one thing that makes everything easier or unnecessary is profound. I know this idea is powerful, ironically, because I forget it so often!
It is so easy for me to fill my to-do list with tasks and projects, most of which seem very important, that it gets overwhelming. By refocusing on the one thing I need to do, it brings me clarity and focus. I re-read this book regularly and constantly refer back to the simple lesson it teaches.

I am a person who always has more ideas of things I could be doing than I could ever possibly have time for. I love and appreciate this book for a simple reason: it reminds me that most things on my list aren’t all that critical, and there are only a few things I can do that will really help me achieve my goals.
This is another book that is mostly about prioritization and identifying what is truly important, and it is incredibly useful when I am feeling overwhelmed. I recently re-read it and took notes on it, and again found a couple of ideas I had not been applying that will help me immensely in getting more of the important things done and really moving the ball forward.

After reading this book, I loved the idea of this book so much that I now break up my daily to-do list into items that are “deep work” and ones that are not. As a solopreneur, pretty much every element of work falls to me, which means that the big picture, long-term stuff often gets procrastinated to a point that it never gets done.
By teaching me to identify what my deep work is and to carve out time for it each week, this book has helped me not only achieve more but also be happier and more fulfilled doing it.
Many modern knowledge workers now spend most of their brain power battling distraction and interruption, whether because of the incessant pinging of devices, noisy open-plan offices or the difficulty of deciding what deserves your attention the most. When Cal Newport coined the term 'deep work' on his popular blog, Study Hacks, in 2012, he found the concept quickly hit a nerve. Most of us, after all, are excruciatingly familiar with shallow work instead - distractedly skimming the surface of our workload and never getting to the important part. Newport began exploring the methods and mindset that foster a practice of…

This is one of my favorite books of all time and I have re-read it many times. It is short, simple, and profound. I love it because I 100% resonate with the feelings of resistance this book talks about. I have always struggled with the voice of resistance to gets me to doubt myself, procrastinate important work, and give up and get distracted rather than following through.
This book is a kick in the butt that always leaves me motivated to take action in the face of the resistance. Everytime I follow the advice in this book, I achieve more and feel better about my goals and journey.
